Van Helsing

"You're right," Van Helsing sighed. "I just feel... well, I felt, in that forest there that I should have killed her as soon as I saw her. It got me thinking that I should have ruined them all by now... but Jinx, she..." he faded off, confused, shutting his eyes.

 

Jinx winced and stopped running, pulling Beatice to a stop too. "It's okay, Beatice. For the next year or so, I'm not going to lie, you are going to want to have humans even more than any other time in your life. Okay? But we won't let you hurt anyone, trust me." she breathed in and repeated her question, "what do you want to eat?"

Carl eyed his friend, confused as well but probably less so than Van Helsing himself. "Jinx what?" he promted.

 

"Within the hour." Hannah said. "I'll leave at the last minute." She sighed, smiling.

Beatrice sighed, ashamed of herself. "Whatever I can...."

 

"Go earlier than he expects, then," Edward suggested against his better judgement. "Then he won't be angry with you right away... and let Lestat be, please," he added again, letting go of her and leaning back, frowning.

 

"I want her to stay," Van Helsing muttered. "And, for some reason, I want to kill her and keep her next to me at the same time..."

 

Jinx knew the feeling. "Yes, but I mean do you want to eat... well... humans?" she asked, trying to keep her voice objective even though she found the idea replusive.

Carl repressed a grin, "So in other words, you're falling for her but you hate that she's a vampire and your hunting instincts are fighting with your human ones... and you don't know which one is going to win in the end?" he summed up, questioning.

 

Hannah lowered her eyes. "I don't want to be near him any longer than I have to." She looked out the carriage window. She smiled a bit, seeing the sun had gone down.

Beatrice nodded, looking at the ground.

 

"That is all completely insane," Van Helsing muttered, putting his hat over his face. "Go to sleep, Carl."

 

"Are you worried?" Edward asked, not looking at her.

 

Jinx pursed her lips but nodded. "Okay, well, when we get back... Hannah can take you hunting then." she said, still making her tone unfazed. "Are you very hungry, we can go back now if you want."

Carl smiled and closed his eyes. "Whatever you say, but I think we both know you'll never kill her, and hopefully not any of them either." he said, before drifting back off to sleep.

 

"What if I don't come back...?" Hannah asked, her eyes still on the sky.

"Only part of me does." Beatrice amended. "I don't really understand it...."

 

Van Helsing only pretended to sleep.

 

Edward growled, turning to look at her now. "I have a feeling Lestat won't let him harm you..." he began, his tone still angry. "I'm unsure, though."

 

Jinx nodded, "That would be the blood lust..." she explained, sadly. "Okay, just so we both completly understand what you want... what do you feel comfortable eating? Ignoring what your body wants."

 

"Not people." Beatrice replied quickly.

"Edward...," Hannah started carefully. "All he has to do is speak...." She turned to look at Edward. "I won't have a choice."

 

"Oh, well that makes it a little clearer..." Jinx kept her face blank but she was actully very happy to hear it. "Then I guess I'll take you hunting, in that casse."

 

"Then what do you want me to do?" Edward sighed. "What do you want me to say? I haven't a clue..." His hand went unconsiously to the cut on his stomach, drifting over it lightly.

 

"Nothing." Hannah said quietly and got out of the carriage.

"That was a bit cold." John chuckled at his joke.

Hannah only groaned, starting to get used to the pain of having a voice in her head. "I'm coming."

"Hurry along now, dear." John smirked.

Beatrice nodded. "Okay."

 

Jinx throught for a second. "well, since you seem to really want blood, we should probably go before going back to the carriges." she looked at Beatice seriously, "When we're on the road, if you need to eat, you have got to tell us immediatly. Alright?" she smiled at her and pulled her into a run again, listening and smelling the air for something to hunt.

 

Edward swore, trying his best to ignore the anger rising in his stomach. He shut his eyes, grimacing against the ruge to growl, to run out of the carriage, to change and bound off to rip off John's head...
