I think this is the first time I've agreed with you. I don't mind when people write fanfics, but when people actually support certain shippings, it annoys me.

But you do ship, and that's the point. Even if you ship canon, you're shipping.
Example, back when I was in the Harry Potter fandom, I adored HarryxGinny, which is canon, but I also shipped the hell out of DracoxHarry. (I was a weird kid, yea, but that's just an example)

trust me, I KNOW 90% of the internet, but I just ran into a particularly gruesome Destiel fanfiction, and I may be scarred for life.

Oh, I don't blame you there. I've had it happen to me too, and it can put you off something quite quickly.
Still, you shouldn't let one thing ruin your love of something.

Although I would advise you to steer clear of FF.net unless you're desperate or someone reccomends you something spectacular.

 

trust me, it took A LOT to get me to this point. Mark Hoppus/Tom Delonge from blink-182 porn fics that have circulated through the pop punk fanbase on tumblr, Brendon Urie/Ryan Ross, and those aren't the worst of them. I've accidentally stumbled across milk enemas and poop fics of couplings that I never wanted to picture, and I'm not even started on cartoon porn. The Spongebob porn images killed me. Let's just say that the people I follow think it's funny to scar others' with things they've been disturbed with.
