I know I've previously made a thread asking for help but this one is a little different. I need help developing an idea. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask for such a thing and if not, please feel free to lock or delete this thread.

Well, anyways, I have a thought for an roleplay I would like to create. Thing is, I'm having trouble trying to come up with a general idea for what I can do with it. I won't say much about it on here since I wouldn't want anyone taking my idea [no offense].
But I wanted to get peoples thoughts or maybe some people who can actually help me with making this roleplay a reality.

But yes, the concept is to be about the dream world/battle of 'reality'. So I need people who have seen at least 2 of the following films
    • The Matrix [not focusing on the action of it]
    • Inception
    • Revolver
    • The Peaceful Warrior
This would really help me a lot. Just to test if you're qualified, I'd like a brief description of what you think on the movies you have seen. Remember, not the action parts. Just what they discuss about the dream world and how to break free. It doesn't have to be anything super exquisite and junk. Just so I know you understand it and could help me. :3
Thank you to anyone who offers their help. It's greatly appreciated.

I've seen The Matrix, and I'm familiar with Inception. In a nutshell, The Matrix involves the 'dream world' being a simulation of the real world c. the 20th century, in which humans are trapped by machines. Inception, if I understand it correctly, has peoples' dreams as accessible in that certain people can enter the dreams of another, and essentially control the dream, and extract information from the dreamer.

I actually once had a 'dream world' sort of RP. It was when I was newer to RPing, but I think it might prove an interesting idea, if you're willing to try it. Though for all I know, it might be too similar to something that's already been done.

I really love all ideas pertaining to a dream world or another plane of existence co-existing with ours. The most interesting aspect to it, but also the most confusing, is that they make you wonder which parts are real and which are fake.

Out of the list I've only seen The Matrix (downloaded and been meaning to watch Inception though, will probably do so soon). The Matrix, from what I remember, was basically humans going beyond what they understood and could handle with technology and losing in the end. They were placed in an alternate reality which, as far as they knew, was the real world where they were born and raised in. The truth of the matter is that this was just fabricated to keep them at bay, sedated, as the real world kept moving by. Since it was all computer based access between the worlds were rather easy, just needed to hook up. Liked how getting out was a bit more of a challenge though.

In the movies they had to be awoken by another from what I've seen (well they had to have had helped and to know the truth but in the end had to escape on their own) however The Animatrix went a bit further on this. It showed breaks, rips if you will, where the two worlds were colliding and in the center of these areas were a portal or doorway. Another example was the runner who was breaking free, escaping reality. It's hard to put into words since it was emotion and passion... It was just he saw that there was something more and felt like he was flying, pushing the limits...perhaps this made a rift.

Ah, I can watch Inception tonight/tomorrow and come back to edit this post or post again but had to at least state my interest in this now even if I'm no good to help. Guess I got a bit carried away though.

If this is the movie you mean when you talk about The Peaceful Warrior, then I've seen all those movies (except Revolver, and the version of The Matrix I saw was the TV-edited version).

    • The Matrix was more jarring than some of the other films, suggesting that our lives are simulations created by angry robots to imprison humans so that they can harvest us for fuel. This was built on with a lucid dream type of manipulation—if you're aware that the world isn't real, then you can do whatever the heck you want in it, e.g., dodge bullets, learn taekwondo, etc.
    • Inception is the one I saw most recently, and that was really thought-provoking. It had the idea of being able to infiltrate people's dreams and take (or plant) ideas. Those infiltrating the dream have lucid power, being able to twist and manipulate the dream at will. However, if the targeted dreamer recognizes that there's an infiltrator (which can happen after too much manipulation, or if the dreamer has been trained to recognize intruders), their subconscious can reject the infiltrator(s) by killing them in the dream. As a note, being killed in a dream results in waking up, or depending on how deep of a dream you're in, waking up from that layer of the dream. If you go too deep, you wind up in this funky sandbox-type world where you have absolute power, but can't wake up. Totems (items only you know the weight and feel of) can be used to determine if you're dreaming or not.
    • Peaceful Warrior is quite different from these. (Pardon me if I get some things wrong; it's been several years since I've seen it. And by several years, I mean I saw an early screening of it in theaters and that's it.) Peaceful Warrior is about a restless gymnast who, after getting his leg severely broken in an accident, gets advice and training from a mysterious man he dubs "Socrates." Most of this training is not for strength or endurance or the likes, but rather is mental and spiritual training. At the end of the movie, he stops by Socrates's gas station with his gymnastics team, only to discover no trace that the man ever existed. That part was a little funky and, since I was plenty younger when I saw it, I completely failed to understand what was going on with that. I'unno.
    Does this help any? :s

Well, while I appreciate your effort and going trough the trouble of typing this, it feels more like a summary of the movies. o: Doukuro mentioned a bit about the dreams. But I think you focused more on the basics of the films. Not that it's a bad thing of course but do you think you can possibly tell me what you think based on the concept of Dreams in The Matrix and Inception?
Also, The Peaceful Warrior's concept would be a bit more different since it's based off finding the true 'Self' and the battle against the 'Ego' living inside us. Which is what I was looking for when people explained. But don't worry too much about that one ><

Again, thank you for your time in posting this. :3 I just wanna hear more of your opinion now if you can. <3

    Oh, no problem! Let's see...

    • The Matrix: The dreams in the film series are our present reality. Unless we're made aware of it (like with lucid dreaming), there's nothing we can do about it. We live out our lives, we die, and we're harvested as battery power. It's not very feel-good. An intriguing twist, as dreams are supposed to be our escape from reality.
    • Inception: The concept of sharing dreams is another interesting one, and one that's been thought of for centuries. Using it as a sort of corporate espionage is an unexpectedly cool (while morally grey) application. It makes sense that, with this development, the subconscious could be trained to have a sort of immune system against it. Adding in dream layers was another nice touch—after all, how many of us have woken up from a dream, only to find out we're still dreaming? Lucidity is also applied in here with spectacular effects.
