As some of you know, I'm an atheist raised by a Roman Catholic family. Everyone in my family is religious, and they have no idea of my real beliefs. I've always kept it secret throughout my entire life, pretending to praise Jesus, pretending to enjoy going to church, etc.
As some of you have witnessed, having to keep a secret for life is frustrating and depressing. I've lately been taking out my frustration by ranting at other threads, and I apologize. I've always been scared that, if I were to tell the truth, my family would be ashamed of me. My parents don't think "very highly" of non-believers, if you know what I mean.
    I want your advice, pals...
Should I tell them the truth?
Or keep it safely secret (as my parents do not like atheists at all)?

well.....I think you should do what your heart tells you. I am a believer but I swear I have 10 friends who believe like every religion in the world(well ok not really) and some who don't believe at all. I don't look at anyone less because they don't believe like I do. I don't think your parents will either. They might not bw happy but they will still love you.

Keep it a secret. You'll miss out on a lot of stuff, your parents might tell people at church, then if have friends at your church, they might not be your friends anymore 'cause their parents would want them to stay away from you 'cause you could convince them not to believe.

    Tell them.

If your own parents hate you after that, hell to them.

I mean, ****, I'm in the same situation. Cept I'm half queer AND athiest raised by christians.
And they know and still love me.

You should tell them... keeping secrets never helps. Sure I'm technically a Christian from the Church of England (mums picky) but even though i havent told them my beliefs, it's pretty obvious since I don't go to church, i listen to music the church doesn't approve of and i swear. I'm sure you're parents will still love you, they may be a bit dissapointed but they'll get over it.

Hey man, I've never had anything against ya. I've just disagreed with you and had a couple friendly debates.
    You're okay =]

Tell your parents, it's better to tell them now than later.

They're your parents, they should love you no matter what.
