Then yeah, that's how podcasts generally work.
No. Member guests are spoken to well in advance.
That's cool, you don't have to be into all the episodes haha. Unless you don't like What Was Missing, then we can't be friends. I did find Lemonhope very compelling and extremely skillfully in writing and imagery but it's far from my favorite AT episode.
My problem with John Green books is pretty much what you stated, the pretentiousness. Far be it from me to criticize that, my own writing has been called pretentious (by me) as well as my general character but there's something so painfully unreal and kinda skeezy at times about his characters. IMO Gus was completely unlikeable all through TFiOS. I did feel he romanticized their illnesses as well, I have never been seriously I'll so I could not speak from experience & my opinion should be taken with that in mind. Their illnesses do get more serious as the novel goes on but it still felt like the unfortunate occasional pitfall of John Green's books, romanticizing ****** things. I don't think there's a lot to differentiate John Green novels from the rest of YA lit besides maybe the cult that has formed around them, but then, a lot of people have an unjustly low opinion of YA lit. They're not the worst books ever but I don't really understand the following they have either.
Interesting. I don't think we opted in for popup ads so I'll have a look at AdSense and see if there's anything on their end. Sadly though decisions about ads are out of my hands oftentimes.
Our ads are served exclusively through AdSense, who does not offer popup ads to my knowledge. I doubt that Jon has changed this especially without notifying me, nor have I had any popup ads from this site. You should check your computer for malware, but I will of course investigate things on our end. Also if there was a particular thread or page you got the ad on that would be helpful.
Lemonhope had a lot to do with free will and responsibility. I think people are reacting to both the philosophy and symbolism in it. If you're familiar with libertarianism (not the political party) and Sartre it'll seem quite familiar.
Lemonhope was ****ing insane. I HEAR YOU MAN, the show really does just give you this undeniably fuzzy and content feeling. I can't place what it is if it is even one thing... Somewhere in the combination of the bizarre language, the fantastically weird characters, the grand post-apocalyptic world, the sweet but meaningful lines, the weird music, and the wholesomeness, there is this beauty and charm that so few other things have. It's such a magical wonderful mad show.
SKY WITCH
The feature isn't available sadly, though it has been requested. I believe the developer gave a quote for how much it would cost to add it to the add-on. I have $50 in my head and I remember a few people being interested in contributing so I can shoot some messages around and see if people are still into it. Whether or not we do it just depends on how much it ends up costing, but I agree, it would be nice to have.
KH-Vids does not use SSL for its logins so Heartbleed will not affect us. That said, if you use the same password on other sites that you use for KHV, I recommended that you change it on here.
We were never able to get enough people involved to start one sadly. I take it you're interested?
Spdude was a piece of ****, he talked to a lot of people (one who ****ed up the site) while blocking Mark and Kay (when she was admin) and ignoring my emails. Tienewman has us on a good server and replies to me so I can't complain too much. For sites that you want to support & who don't have intrusive (popup) ads I'd really recommend turning off Adblock, hosting bills are not cheap for large sites and ads are probably their only way of paying them.
Sometimes it's not even that, going as far as "please be excited for us to announce our announcements."
Aw yeah this used to bug me growing up, I have two older sisters (who are twins) and whenever I was having trouble in school they'd minimize what I was dealing with because their schoolwork was harder... Even though I could distinctly remember them struggling with the same class or assignment growing up. Thankfully it didn't happen often but it was still very frustrating.
We don't have any popup ads here so if you had no other websites open I'd run a check for malware.
Gotcha, okay. Otherwise we don't go in a particular order for the participants, obviously those who submitted first will be considered first but sometimes scheduling doesn't work out etc. Obviously since we record every week there's plenty of chance to get on (and soon), although with an upcoming staff questions podcast & another special one we have in the works we might be light on guests in the coming weeks.
Usually I've just been contacting people a day or two before the episode and seeing if they're interested in appearing. I think I did notice that you marked on yours that you didn't have headphones, which we require to avoid echo (some mics won't pick it up but we like to be safe). A cheap pair of earbuds will do the trick if you want to pick some up. I actually know someone with one of these! He uses it for his PS3 but it's the same idea. It's kinda cool really, sadly it's quite bulky so I can't see carrying it around to like... school or something, but if you travel a lot it could be a neat addition.
All you need is a decent mic and headphones! I understand being anxious about participating, it took a long time before I was really comfortable doing podcasts. We usually talk for a little while before the episode starts which I find helps relax everyone. Honestly I think you should just give it a shot! We don't have to talk about gaming every week so if there are other topics people want to listen to or talk about then that's cool by me (as long as we have some interest in/knowledge about it too).
It's a huge adjustment taking over the podcast but I'm so happy with the improvements we've made. Technically I'm still learning a lot but then there are vocal based things like articulating, cutting down on likes and ums, making sure you know what you're saying before you open your mouth... It's a lot to be conscious of. And then there's trying to make sure everyone has a chance to speak, not interuptting others, etc. Even with all of this though it's a lot of fun. The best part to me is definitely having guests, every one we've had has been unique and fun and I'd love to have them back. I definitely encourage everyone to sign up!
