Three Dogs Euthanized after Mauling Neighbors, Dogs in Denver
This just sickens me. I only found out about this because I was reading an article on our local news site about how a cougar, which also doesn't deserve it, would be getting euthanized for attacking livestock, and I didn't know what euthanized meant.

Right, so people would rather take the lazy way out by killing the animals rather than training them not to be aggressive. I don't care what an animal does, killing them is just the coward's way out. The only justifiable cause to putting an animal down is if it's sick and suffering, but other than that, their lives should not be taken.

DENVER - Three dogs accused of breaking through a security door at a neighbor's home and mauling two people and two other dogs have been euthanized.

"Due to the severity of the attack and the aggressiveness of the dogs, all three were euthanized," Denver city spokeswoman Meghan Hughes told 7NEWS.

The attack happened last month on South Winona Court in Denver.

"I saw them [the dogs] charge out of my neighbor's house," neighbor Shirley Crofford said.

Crofford said the dogs ripped the screen off her front security door and burst into her home.

When Crofford stepped in to protect her two small dogs, she was bitten and had to go to the hospital to have the wounds cleaned.

"I saw the dog on top of her and her screaming," said Albert Garcia, a neighbor who was also bitten by the dogs while trying to pull them off the smaller dogs.

Crofford's dogs were taken to an animal hospital. Gordy was treated and released. Dug needed surgery.

The dog's owner, Karen Smith, was charged with three counts of leash law violation, seven counts of attack, three counts of bites and one count of damaging property, according to Denver Animal Control.

Smith's dogs were being held at the Denver Animal Shelter as a public safety threat. Hughes said Smith signed the dogs over to the city and Animal Control euthanized the dogs.

The Wonders of Science: Hot and Cold Water

I just finished mowing the front and back yard about an hour ago, and my legs and feet were killing me, so I took a nice, hot bath.

I've just begun taking baths again recently ever since my legs were killing me after I went down with my mom to the horse clinic that one day I was gone, and I find it really fascinating how hot or cold water can make you feel a whole lot better.

Can someone explain how and why hot and cold water work wonders on sore muscles?

One Problem after Another

Apparently my power supply fan has been doing two jobs for a while now, because, out of curiosity, after cleaning my computer, I left the cover off and turned it on, and the CPU fan was barely spinning and not even spinning at all.

It hasn't overheated once, though, since whenever the issue started, so I am still able to use my computer, thankfully.

Jury Duty

Looks like the deferment I requested back in April might not happen because they don't have enough jurors for June. Ugh. Bunch of bullshit.

The only bright side is that my mom pretty much thinks she can guarantee I won't be chosen because she works at the district court, though I'd still have to go in.

Justin Bieber Accused in Attempted Robbery
I really don't know what to think anymore, but I am not losing hope. However, at the same time, for all we know, the alleged victim could have just made that up because Justin Bieber got mad at them for trying to take a picture and didn't want them to or something, in which case he didn't do anything wrong.

In regards to the Mother's Day incident, I do feel bad for him there. Regardless of who the person is, that was a pretty rude thing of the audience to do, and there's no justification for it at all.

Beleaguered singer-songwriter Justin Bieber has been accused in an attempted robbery in the Los Angeles area, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Tuesday night.

The alleged victim reported the incident to police Monday at about 10:30 p.m. West Coast time, and that alleged victim was being interviewed by police late Tuesday evening, Officer Rosario Herrera told USA TODAY.

Bieber, 20, had not been questioned by police or arrested as of late Tuesday, Herrera said.

No details were available as to whether the alleged incident took place at a home, business or some other site, but it did take place in the police agency's Devonshire district in the San Fernando Valley, Herrera said.

Herrera said she did not believe the alleged victim had been hurt in the incident.

It was not clear what sorts of items might have been sought in the incident, Herrera said.

The Canadian-born Bieber has been involved in a string of brushes with the law and incidents that have caused fans to distance themselves from him.

He was first arrested in January 2014 in Miami on charges of driving under the influence and with an expired license.

On Mother's Day, during a Los Angeles Clippers game that he attended with his mother, Pattie Mallette, the audience at the Staples Center booed when his face appeared on the Jumbotron screen.

Support Internet Connection Lost When Uploading Videos on YouTube

Not A HUGE deal, just a minor inconvenience.

As some of you know, we had to replace our modem, and now when uploading videos on YouTube, for the first five or ten minutes of the upload (if the time remaining is longer than that, of course), I cannot get connected to Windows Live Mail, websites, and Skype will go on and off, though strangely enough the YouTube upload still makes progress.

Any ideas?

Wildfires pushed by gusty winds chewed through canyons parched by California's drought, prompting evacuation orders for more than 20,000 homes on the outskirts of San Diego and another 1,200 homes and businesses in Santa Barbara County 250 miles to the north.

No homes were reported damaged in either fire, but hundreds were considered threatened. The rugged terrain and unseasonably warm temperatures made firefighting even more difficult.

The flames that erupted in the fire-prone Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego quickly grew to 700 acres, driven by hot, dry Santa Ana winds that whipped through areas dotted by hilltop estates and pricey new housing tracts.

Black and gray smoke billowed over the area, filled with whirling ash and embers that created small spot fires. Flames crept within yards of some homes before firefighters doused them.

On one road, people on bicycles and skateboards stopped to watch as a plane dumped water on flames a half-mile away. At least two high schools and three elementary schools were evacuated.

Cameron Stout, filling his tank at a gas station, got a text from his wife shortly after noon saying that she was packing up and leaving with the family's pictures, laptops and other valuables. Their next-door neighbor's home burned in a fire 15 years ago, he said.

"This area's been through this before," he said. "I thought the recent rains would have prevented this from happening. But after a couple days of 100 degrees, it's reversed all that."

Katy Ghasemi, 14, was held for hours in her high school classroom before the school let the children go home. Students studied, ate lunch, did yoga and looked out the windows at the fire.

"There were a lot of flames. Some were right near the front gate," she said.

Chuck Dawson said firefighters saved his home.

"The heat is ferocious as you get close to it. In fact, it probably came within 25 feet of our house," he told KNSD-TV ( http://bit.ly/1nKiY94 ). "Luckily, we had about 30 firemen who barricaded it, and it burned all the way around, but we're safe."

Another fire in southern San Diego County destroyed a mobile home before it was extinguished.

Meanwhile, in the Santa Barbara County community of Lompoc, 1,200 homes and businesses were under an evacuation order from a fire that quickly grew to more than 500 acres.

There were downed power lines and heavy brush in the area, said David Sadecki of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

A half-dozen other blazes statewide all remained small, said Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Record high temperatures were predicted throughout much of California for the next two days. San Diego's high of 94 on Tuesday tied a 1979 record.

The combination of high heat, low relative humidity and Southern California's notoriously gusty Santa Ana winds prompted Los Angeles and neighboring cities to activate parking restrictions in certain areas to make sure emergency vehicles could get through if fires erupted in dry brush.

Months of drought have left much of the landscape ready to burn. Downtown Los Angeles has recorded just 6.08 inches of precipitation with little time left in the July 1-June 30 rain year. That's less than half its annual average rainfall.

"Fire season last year never really ended in Southern California," Berlant said. His agency has responded to more than 1,350 fires since Jan. 1, compared with an average of 700 by this time of year.

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Seven On Your Side has been investigating a high tech car hacking technique for nearly a year. And now we have proof that the crime is taking place in the Bay Area.

We have always suspected it, but this is the first time it has been caught on video -- a high tech car burglar at work in Fremont.

Video shows a thief breaking into one car, then the one right next to it. It shows her pulling on the door handle, then waiting. Police believe she has a very small device that had to be directly pressed against the door.

The car's interior light comes on and she gets into the car without any problems. She doesn't steal the car, but rifles through the contents.

This may not be the first time. There have been reports of widespread car burglaries in Palo Alto one night and the same thing in Oakland on another.

Investigators believe thieves are using some sort of mechanism that can electronically trigger the device.

But we had never caught a Bay Area thief in action, and we almost missed it this time.

"So that morning I installed the cameras, that night my cars were broken into," said Fremont resident Derek Walsh. "Wow, yes, yes amazing. It was pure luck. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it."

Walsh assumed he had left his car unlocked.

"But then my wife looked at the video and she goes wait a minute hun," said Walsh. "The light went on before she even lifted up the handle. There is something going on here. And so I took a closer look at the video and I said you are right. And that's when it became obvious to me she was using something!"

He posted his findings on Nextdoor, the social network for neighborhoods, and nearly a dozen neighbors responded.

"Pretty sure it was locked, don't know how they got in, I am in the habit of locking my truck every time I get out of it," said Walsh. "It is the same theme, you know."

Michael Grigsby is the neighborhood watch block captain. He heard about the burglaries on Nextdoor, too.

"Ironically, my neighbor got robbed, his car was broken into as well, and his duffle bag was stolen," Grigsby said. "So this is something that is continuing to happen."

Investigator Mike Bender is one of the foremost auto burglary experts in the nation. He is calling Walsh's video an important piece of the puzzle.

"It is just so frustrating that law enforcement hasn't flipped someone so we can fix the issue and protect our cars," said Bender.

He says police have gotten a hold of the devices. But neither the cops nor the automotive engineers have been able to replicate the burglaries.

"When they struck out the automatically assumed it can't be done and there is nothing wrong with their vehicles, when we know otherwise because of the video," he said.

Bender says these are electromagnetic devices. But how they work is still a mystery.

"We do have one engineer working on it to duplicate it, but I think the latest video you uncovered will really help motivate us to get a solution to this," Bender said.

Well, That Was a Fine Mess

Ugh. Well, that was a mess. If you're all wondering why I haven't been on today until now, here's why:

Around 11:00 PM last night, our Internet decided to go down. Okay, that's no biggie in itself because we'll have frequent issues every now and then where our router will reset our modem for whatever reason, and that was the issue at that time.

So it came back online, and then around 12:00 AM this morning, it went down again, that time not coming back online. So at around 12:30 AM, I tried leaving the modem unplugged for 30 minutes; after 30 minutes, it still wouldn't connect, so I got fed up and unplugged it again and left it unplugged until I woke up later.

Well, at around 8:00 AM this morning, it still wasn't working, so I figured it was an issue with our ISP. So I then went down to the Charter building, and they said they weren't experiencing any technical difficulties, so we then figured out it was the modem. And it did turn out to be the modem because when I was trying it again before going down there, it would go on and then turn off.

So my mom and I went down to the Charter building during her lunch hour to replace the modem, and when we got back, we got connected to the Internet, but we still couldn't get on actual websites because we had to reconfigure the IP address and all that stuff, so my mom called Charter support at work, and then Charter called me, and now the Internet's working again. Yay!

Sam, the 2013 defensive player of the year in the Southeastern Conference, came out as gay to his teammates before last season. He disclosed his sexual orientation in media interviews earlier this year. At the NFL scouting combine in February he drew the largest media contingent that anyone there could recall.

Before the first round Thursday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in an ESPN interview that he was pulling for Sam to be selected at some point in the three-day draft.

"We like to say the NFL is the ultimate meritocracy," Goodell said. "I have great respect for Michael, his courage, his decision to come public, and I'm optimistic he can get that opportunity, and hopefully he can play at this level."

The defensive end was taken on the 249th pick of the last round of the three-day draft at Radio City Music Hall.

Television cameras captured Sam receiving the phone call informing him of his selection and the Texan broke into tears, shaking with joy at the news.

"Thank you to the St. Louis Rams and the whole city of St. Louis. I'm using every ounce of this to achieve greatness!!" He posted on his Twitter account.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher told the NFL Network: "I'm excited about our draft and excited about the possibility of adding him to our defensive front.

"After doing the studies, he's a good football player," Fisher said about the pick.

The NFL (@nfl) tweeted: "Welcome to the NFL, @MikeSamFootball."

Sam led the conference in sacks and in tackles for a loss, but waited until seven picks before the end of the draft to hear his name called after his stock fell following mediocre results at February's scouting combine.

Sam would become the second openly gay player in one of North America's four major professional team sports following basketball's Jason Collins, who joined the NBA's Brooklyn Nets this season.

Collins, who sent a congratulatory text to Sam when he was selected, told ESPN: “I think it’s great. I’m looking forward to seeing him progress throughout his career.… I think it’s a great day for the NFL, and for Michael and his family."

Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League also have not yet had an openly gay player on the field.

Sam was generally regarded by NFL evaluators as a tweener, someone too small to be an effective defensive end, and too slow to drop into pass coverage -- at least at an elite level. He was widely projected to be a late-round draft pick or free agent, despite his impressive credentials.

Sam granted almost no media interviews in the days before the draft, and he watched Rounds 4-7 on Saturday in San Diego with friends, family and his agent. There was a TV camera capturing the scene when Sam was selected. Like many players before him, Sam cried as he got the news over the phone.

Rams coach Fisher said he was unconcerned about an anticipated media crush to cover Sam at training camp or about any problems within the clubhouse over welcoming in the gay player.

"I don't have any concern whatsoever," said Fisher. "We drafted a good football player. I'm excited to get him on the practice field and get him going.

"There's going to be a little extra attention for a couple of days but Michael was the co-SEC defensive player of the year. We're looking forward to this opportunity."We have a young team, (but) a very mature team. We're not going to let any kind of distractions affect this football team."
