This is an excellent controversy. In mathematics and all science, something is false until proven true. But to gain support of religious people they took the alternative of saying he exists because they can't prove he doesn't. That just shows that Money, Power, and Control are God.
The first religions were created to keep penises in their pants. Because they were producing too many babies that they could hunt for. So the chief created a lie to help his people survive. In the fact that God is a necessary lie to keep those of lesser mentality in check, it still does. Those who are very weak minded or weak in happiness always turn to God. The amount of people who go to church who make more than 100K a year is appalling, its less that 1%. What does that tell you?
In any society and any religion there are Golden Rules are all the same, and in most, all of the stories are the same and just modified a little bit. They are the same because they are stories everyone can relate to and have been proven to mean something.
I've seen and been on both ends of this spectrum and I still cannot say what is God, but there is something of God that everyone can believe in. And I also believe that believing that there is something out there greater than humans is a very necessary and healthy part of living, no matter what you think is greater than you.. It could be aliens for all I care.. Maybe God is an alien.
