This is my take on the situation:
Texting: Sure, as long as it's MARGINALLY understandable.
IMing: I personally tolerate a lot less of it, since you have the keyboard at your disposal. Besides, I like to think of it as good practice.
Talking: Minimal, if at all.
Anywhere else: NO.
I dislike it for the reasons that most people dislike it for: it's annoying, it implies that the person is unintelligent, and it shows laziness.
On a side note, one time in school someone wrote a research paper in "Text Talk" and the teacher read it to us, pointing out all of the instances of "Text Talk." It was hilarious, but short-lived. (the paper, as you might imagine, wasn't all that long)
Honestly, it's a very tough decision. But I choose life with emotions, even if life without seems better, since there are drawbacks to life without (almost) every emotion. When it somes down to it, it's a pretty close decision between the two to me.
Let's see...
Happiness: Without it, there'd be no meaning to many things that we do, although that can also be tied in with other things such as pride.
Sadness: Can't think of a drawback.
Anger: While harmful at times, it helps us get things done.
Envy: Can be used as motivation in certain situations.
...Too lazy to think about others right now. Feel free to add to anything, state reasons for disagreement, etc.
I personally think that death is just some kind of parallel existence; we still percieve the real world, but are not percieved by its denizens. (although that's probably just afterlife)
I also personally think that it's an interesting subject because it's always something that people can guess on, since the only ones that could possibly say for sure can't...
